Friday Forecast

Good morning!

It has been wonderful meeting with parents at learning conferences these week!

We are looking forward to participating in the Terry Fox Run on Monday morning. We will finish up learning about him and applying that to our  exploring math in the world around us, thinking about how far Terry travelled and how his age was different from ours and how long ago the original Marathon of Hope took place.

We will be continuing to review our Zones of Regulation, and recognizing how each zone is expected in different situations and unexpected in others. We will be working on tools that we can use to help ourselves and our friends in these zones. We will also be working on thinking about how we talk to ourselves using an inner critic and inner coach voice.

We continue to go to the library each week and have time each day for students to read their library books or books from the classroom library. Students picked out their first home reading book. Please ask your student to bring it home if they haven't.

We continue to look at trees around us, and this is being reflected in our continuing art activity with the 5/6 class.  Please ask your student why they are grateful for trees! We have also used trees as a way to estimate, tally, and count in the world around us!  We will be building our own trees next week, estimating and counting each block that we used to build a tree. Weather permitting, we hope to examine and sketch trees and leaves up close to look at colour and texture, as well as to think about how the trees and leaves change with each season, just like the changing temperature and weather that we look at each morning.

We continue to think about how we can help the environment through our composting, recycling, etc. and have read some stories as a class to think about how we can be better dragons and take care of the world around us! Ask your student about wearing dragon tails!

In gym, we are continuing to work on our dribbling, passing and teamwork skills as well as enjoying the warm weather as it lasts, exercising on the playground.

In math, we are reviewing how numbers can be expressed in different ways using tally, power of ten, money, fact families, place value, etc.
