Happy Holidays!

Today, we enjoyed making sugar cookies, caroling, eating popcorn, watching Home Alone, taste-testing Egg Nog, making garland, colouring snowflakes and more!

We also continued to work on our penmanship to work on using uppercase and lowercase letters to touch the right lines and leaving spaces so that our words are nice and clear!

We reviewed what kinds of trees Christmas trees are and talked about the tradition of Christmas trees, and the pros and cons of fake vs. real Christmas trees as well as other holiday details, such as wrapping paper, etc.

Thank you for all the wonderful cards and gifts! I really appreciate the privilege of teaching your child!

Have a wonderful holiday!

Yesterday, we were working on math riddles with holiday symbols!

A few of us have been working on learning about the environmental impact of real and fake Christmas trees as well.

Our character studies continue as we read about sportsmanship, cooperation, and friendliness.

Press Start

Dear Parents and Guardians

On Wednesday December 19th we will be presenting our winter musical, “PRESS START” and we would love to have you join us for either the dress rehearsal at 1:00 PM or the performance at 6:30 PM.  Our students, staff and parent council have been working their tails off to put together an extravaganza that’s a feast for the eyes and the ears.  Please join us on Wednesday, Dec 19th (1:00 or 6:30) to see what we have put together.  The dress rehearsal might be a great option for those that have other concerts to go to that evening or have other commitments.

Press Start is a musical that is based on the “lives” of popular video game characters as they discover their purpose and how we are all heroes at heart.  The musical features such toe-tappers as “Press Start”, “Heroes in this World” and the rocking finale, “The Final Level”!

See you all on the 19th!

This Week So Far

Today, with our character trait reading, we talked about honesty and how it is important to respect what isn't ours and to tell the truth. Yesterday, we talked about patience with waiting and taking our turn.

Yesterday, we talked about working through our problems and today we talked about being excited and how it can be both a positive and a negative when it places us in the yellow zone.

Today, we learned a bit about Hanukkah and made a candle craft to represent the Menorah.

Our Press Start rehearsals are continuing and we worked on a crest for our costumes.

We also worked on posters to tell people about the holiday events coming up next week.

We enjoyed our Fresh Air Break outside today!

We continued our shape discussion today by considering what shapes make up both drawing and building a snowman, as well as what shapes make up some holiday items such as a Christmas tree, etc.

We have also been working on tying our shoes, telling time, days of the week and money currency!

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is returning to Cambrian Heights School from Tuesday, December 4, to Friday, December 7, 2018. As always, the Fair will be open during Student-Led Conferences on December 6 and 7.
Scholastic Book Fair is like a mini travelling bookstore: it brings the latest and greatest children's books right to the school! Giving children easy access to fun, engaging reading material is one of the best way to develop their love of reading.
On the mornings of Tuesday Dec. 4, Wednesday Dec. 5, and Thursday Dec. 6, the students are welcome to visit and make a list of their favorite things or even buy books and accessories in advance of the interviews. Classroom teachers will be arranging times for classes to tour the Book Fair.
At Student-Led Conferences, on the evening of Thursday Dec. 6 and the morning of Friday Dec. 7, parents and students are welcome to come browse the Fair and purchase items while waiting their interview times. Or, have a quick look and come back after interviews to pick up some amazing gifts ready for Christmas.
For each book sold at the Book Fair, Scholastic Books will give Cambrian Heights School a discount on anything for the school, whether it's new resources for the classrooms or the latest novels for the library. This is a great opportunity to help your school!
Thank you and see you at the Book Fair!

Forecast Friday

Yesterday, we enjoyed a fun gym activity with the 5/6s involving hula hoops and teamwork to get across the gym!

Today, we took home our new Read Every Day program to track our home reading. Please read the instructions and track your child's reading. Your child has been sent home home reading books based on their last reading assessment. Please read the book with your child, ask your some of the discussion questions, and return the book when your feel  your child has completed the reading to the best of your ability. We will read the book with your child when it is returned to school.

This week, we have been having discussions about what we See, Think, and Wonder when we make predictions based on the front cover of a book and make connections when we read a book. As a class, we choose the image of a bookshelf with books on it to help us remember to think of what we have already experienced, read and learned in the past when we think of something new.

Today, we wrote our personal goals for reading, writing, and math into Iris.

We also talked about another of our 7 Habits characters.

We also made a wishlist of classroom activities that we wish to do during the month of December.  There are some fun schoolwide spirit activities coming up in December as well!

We had a great composting pickup today. Our composting worms are doing well!

Next week, we will be continuing our Press Start rehearsals, reading groups, and math groups.

Next Thursday evening and Friday morning, we will be having student-led learning conferences. Please sign up on my conferences in your My CBE account. I will be booking 45 minute time increments to allow us time to review IPP updates and for your child to share some of their learning activities.

Monday June 17th

Hello Parents! We have a busy next week at Cambrian Heights!  Just a note that this will be our last week of spelling words. Please check...
